Boat Haul Out

Three men decided to buy a boat.

We picked up a lovely yellow trailer sailer - a Merlin 6.1m from the Pardey's (wiki)
The problem with buying a boat from an Island is you need a boat to get the boat.  Luckily we are well equipped kiwis.

Love at first sight.
$2500

We had a few trips
Sailing around the Mahurangi over a weekend in February with our Aussie mate, Sam.

Trip to Kawau over Easter with our Aussie mate, Scotty.  (Impala in background)

We were losing our battle with the garden the sea kept trying to grow on our hull.  And we were on the downhill slope of having fittings break on us.

The boat was in need for some attention so we hauled it out over the winter.

The Little Shoal Bay Boat Owner's Association has an amazing facility at Little Shoal Bay.
$80 bulldozer haul out
$220 for the use of the facilities from 1 May to 30 November.
$80 bulldozer haul in.
Their only online presence seems to come from the only 50% supportive Little Shoal Bay Protection Society.

I will try to keep this blog updated with our progress as we refurbish the boat over the coming winter.

  1. Did you finish your boat? I've bought one that also needs doing, it's a Merlin, a keel version. It's missing so much, that it would be good to see your boat for some dimensions for the rudder and other things..
